Run for the Peaceful World without Nuclear Weapons and Wars
2015 Hiroshima-Nagasaki Marathon Relay
Tomohiko Yaegashi, Executive Committee Chairperson
It has been 70 years since the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Nuclear weapons are the worst inhumane and cruel arms that claim the lives of many people
including noncombatant in an instant, or inflict a deep injury, continuous pain, and destroy
global environment. Nuclear warheads decreased from about 70,000 (1986)
to about 17,000, but
are still highly-destructive to bring to human ruin.
Japan inflicted damage on many people and also suffered serious damage during World War II.
Therefore, article 9 of the constitution was enacted as below.
“Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use
of force as means of settling international disputes”.
We believe this idea should be instituted in other nations as it will lead peaceful world without
nuclear weapons and wars.
The serious accident leading to a radiation leak at the Fukushima nuclear plant, which should
have been fail-safe, happened in 2011.
We hope the peaceful world without nuclear weapons, wars, terrorism, and accidents of the
nuclear power plants, and that we can run freely in all over the world.
